From the Novus Vault: Samsung Nexus S
For nearly two decades, Novus Labs has been constructing an extensive interoperability library and collecting remarkable devices. This week we revisit the Samsung Nexus S — a pivotal Android device that pushed the platform toward simplicity, openness, and the modern Android ecosystem we know today.
Released December 16, 2010, the Nexus S was the second device in Google's "Nexus" reference line and the first phone to ship with Android 2.3 "Gingerbread". Built by Samsung, it paired a curved 4.0-inch Super AMOLED display with a clean, stock-Android software experience and an unlockable bootloader on most variants — explicitly designed for developers who wanted to live close to AOSP. It was also one of the first Android phones to support NFC in both hardware and software, laying the groundwork for Android Beam, Google Wallet, and the broader contactless ecosystem.
