What Does Display Testing at Novus Labs Cover?

Novus Labs is a display testing lab that measures what actually reaches the screen, not just what the specification promises. Whether your device is the source, the sink, or anything in between, our Display Lab pairs an extensive inventory of panels, source and sink devices, and content-delivery hardware with proprietary AV measurement tools, and tests from the consumer's point of view in both controlled-lab and real-world conditions.

  • Panels and devices across TVs, phones, tablets, laptops, and smart displays
  • Source and sink coverage for set-top boxes, casting devices, streaming dongles, AVRs, and soundbars
  • Real-world playback scenarios backed by our interoperability device library
  • Frame-accurate measurement via the Novus AV Analysis Suite

The Novus AV Analysis Suite

Our Display Lab measurements are driven by the Novus A/V Suite, a proprietary system that takes a frame-by-frame, end-to-end approach to test and measurement, agnostic to the underlying technology used for content delivery.

Combining cutting-edge analytics, powerful processing, and flexible test configurations, the AV Suite Core System provides the right mix of performance and versatility. Pair any of the five analysis packages with your display test plan.

  • High Speed Machine Vision Analytics (340 fps capture)
  • HDMI Analytics (1920×1080 @ 60 fps frame grabber)
  • Video Recording & Media File Analytics
  • Audio Glitch & Distributed Audio packages

FAQ

Display Testing Questions

What is display testing?

Display testing measures the real playback experience: video quality (glitches, artifacts, color), continuity (dropouts, buffering, freezes), timing (frame jitter, judder, audio/video sync), and protocol integrity (HDMI, HDCP, DisplayPort). Novus Labs measures what actually reaches the screen with the frame-accurate AV Analysis Suite.

Which display interfaces and formats do you test?

HDMI and DisplayPort signaling, CEC, HDCP, resolution and refresh negotiation, optical (TOSLINK), IR control, ARC/eARC, and audio formats from stereo PCM to Dolby and DTS bitstream. For formal certification we also run HDMI and DisplayPort compliance programs.

Can you test streaming and casting devices?

Yes. We test OTT streaming apps, casting and mirroring, adaptive-bitrate playback, and DRM-protected content across set-top boxes, dongles, and smart displays, using our interoperability device library to reproduce real-world device mixes.

Do you measure audio/video sync (lip-sync)?

Yes. Lip-sync and latency are core measurements, and they tie into our audio testing program for end-to-end AV performance.
